Varsity Falls 14-10 to Marengo

ACC fell to 0-2 on the season, dropping a 14-10 decision to Marengo High School Saturday evening. The Chargers out-gained Marengo 177-175 for the contest, but was unable to overcome late penalties.

The Chargers were driving for what would have been the game winning score, however Justin Garcia couldn't controll a 4th down pass from Stewart deWaard, turning the ball over on the Marengo 25 with 1:48 remaining. ACC would force a three and out, and get the ball back with 32 seconds left, but were unable to move the ball.

The Chargers jumped on the scoreboard first. Alex Schaefer's 2 yard touchdown run made the score 7-0 halfway through the second quarter. Marengo answered on a 16 yard touchdown pass, with a little over a minute remaining in the half.  Marengo scored again to open the third quarter on a 26 yard youchdown run by Bobby Gaines. Central then converted a 25 yard field goal on the first play of the fourth quarter, setting up the dramatics at the end.

Schaefer finished the night with 102 yards on 12 carries and the lone touchdown. Cullen Rogers and Dakota Lewis both paced the defense with 11 tackles.

ACC will now open conference play on Friday (9/11) as they travel to Woodstock to take on Marian Central Catholicm, kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
