For the second straight week, the sophomore Chargers gained over 300 yards of total offense, netting 307 en route to a 27-14 win over Marengo on Saturday. In what was an ugly game at times, the Chargers piled up 244 rushing yards and a whopping 7.4 yard per carry average against the Indians.

Central opened the scoring on its first possesion as Steven Amoni capped of a 4 play 80 yard drive with a 44 yard touchdown run giving ACC a 6-0 lead. Marengo took the lead following a 42 yard touchdown pass and a successful extra point. The Chargers regained the lead for good as David Cuevas scored from yard out. ACC would add a two point conversion making the halftime score 14-7.

In the second half, the Chargers marched down the field and scored on a 10 yard run by Aaron Blatner giving ACC a 21-7 lead. After allowing Marengo another touchdown, the Charger defense re-gained its form,  holding on what could have been a game-tying drive with a little over 3 minutes remaining. On the first play of the possession, Luke Dickerson scored on a 52 yard touchdown run giving the Chargers the 27-14 win.

Dickerson led the Chargers with 105 yards on 12 carries, Amoni gained 60 on 11 carries.

Central finished the game plus-three in the turnover margin, three interceptions (Kyle Ritili, David Cuevas, Tyler Nelson) helped the Chargers preserve the win.

ACC will now open conference play Friday (9/11) as they take on Marian Central Catholic in Woodstock. Sophomore kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
