Chargers Cruise to First Win of Season

Posted Wednesday, September 23, 2009 by Brian Casey

The travel may have suggested it was a road game for ACC on Saturday afternoon, but that didnt stop the Chargers from putting up 62 points on their way to a 62-21 win over Michigan Lutheran High School at Brown Field on the campus of Valparaiso University. The win snapped a 13 game losing streak on the Varsity level, and gave much of the senior class their first win of their high school careers.

The Chargers jumped on the scoreboard early on a 6 play 69 yard drive capped off by an Alex Schaefer 23 yard scoring run. Schaefer finished the game with 176 yards rushing and 2 scores. Following a blocked punt by Tyler Scott, the Chargers scored again, this time Andrew Scott found the end zone from 5 yards out putting the Chargers up 14-0. Scott also finished with a strong rushing performance, finishing with 128 yards and two touchdowns.

Michigan Lutheran stayed in the game with two touchdown passes in the second quarter, but scores from Justin Garcia, Kendal Reed, Lucas Niemiec, Dakota Lewis and Luis Hizo were to much as the Chargers moved to 1-3 on the season, dropping the Titans to 3-1.

Total on the day, the Chargers rushed for 563 yards, and gained 622 yards of total offense.

The Chargers will now return to Bob Stewart Stadium, after traveling 351 miles over the last three weeks, returning to conference play as they welcome St. Edward. All fans are being asked to arrive early and Wear Blue! The sophomore game kicks off at 5:30 p.m., with the varsity scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
