ACC Sophs fall 14-12 to St. Edwards

In a game where the statistics would not add up, the Chargers dropped to 3-2 on the season, falling Friday night to St. Edward 14-12 at Bob Stewart Stadium. The Chargers out-gained the Green Wave 310-169 in total offense, and held a 285-152 advantage on the ground. However, a fumble recovery in the end zone with 4:59 remaining in the game, provided the differance that counted.

The Chargers jumped on the scoreboard early in the second quarter, as Steven Amoni rushed for a 27 yard touchdown giving the Chargers a 6-0 lead. Following a turnover on downs, the Green Wave scored on a 42 yard run by Luke Duffy, and converted the two point conversion giving Ed's a 8-6 lead. That lead would be short-lived, as the Chargers went on a 2 play 86 yard drived capped by Amoni's 58 yard touchdown run, putting the Chargers back in front 12-8 at the half.

The game stayed that way until deciding score halfway through the fourth quarter. The Chargers mounted a rally, driving the ball to the Green Wave 19, but a sack and two incompletions sealed the Chargers fate.

ACC had opportunities, however 9 penalites for 65 yards did not help the cause, including one that wipped out a touchdown on the Chargers opening possession, and one late in the game, that gave St. Edward the opporunity to run the clock out.

The defense played another solid game allowing only 17 yards through the air. Kyle Ritili intercepted two passes. Overall the Chargers were plus one on the day in the turnover ratio.

The Chargers are now 3-2, and will return to action Friday night as they travel to Marmion. Kickoff for the sophomore game is scheduled for 5:15.
