In what could end up being a big step in the right direction for ACC Football, the Chargers Freshman defeated Marmion 14-12 Monday afternoon at Bob Stewart Field. The win was the first conference win of the season for the freshman, and moved the Chargers to 2-1 on the season. It also was the first win over the crosstown rival at the freshman level since 2005.

With the game scoreless at halftime, the Chargers fumbled their opening play of the second half, giving the Cadets the ball deep in ACC territory. On third down, a Marmion pass was tipped by Tyler Nelson, bounced off the helmet of Anthony Andujar, before it was caught for a touchdown giving the Cadets a 6-0 lead. After a three and out, the Cadets extended their lead to 12-0 with a 65 yard punt return halfway through the thrid quarter.

From their the Chargers offense hit its stride. After back to back first downs, Steven Amoni broke off a 47 yard touchdown on third down, getting ACC on the board, the Chargers would add the two point conversion making the score 12-8. Following a Marmion three and out, the Chargers quick strike offense scored again, this time Amoni rushed right for a 61 yard touchdown  giving ACC the 14-12 lead with 7:01 remaining in the game.

The ACC defense held its ground forcing a turnover on downs, thanks in part to sacks by Steve Belovich, Jake McCarthy, and Luke Dickerson. ACC would be forced to punt with a 2:02 remaining, but a muff catch allowed Dickerson to recover sealing the win for the Chargers.

Pat Marcoux lead the Chargers with 9 tackles, including 2 for a loss. The Chargers improved to 2-1 on the season, they will travel to Montini on Monday (10/5), with kickoff scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
