Sophomores move to 4-4 with 6-0 win over I.C.

The Aurora Central Catholic Sophomore football team received a big lesson in learning how to win.  Every time the ACC defense took the field in the second half, they were defending a 6-0 lead, and all 8 times they did so without a hitch, leading the Chargers to a 6-0 win over Immaculate Conception on Saturday at Elmhurst College.

In a week where the offense struggled to put the ball in the end zone, the defense came up with their best effort of the season. The Knights never took a snap on the ACC side of the field, and only managed 74 yards of total offense, against the Chargers who forced three turnovers, and stopped two fake punt tries. Immaculate Conceptions best offensive drive came on their final possession of the game, but 4 stright incomplete passes ended the mini-threat at the IC 38 yard line.

The offense scored on their first possession of the second quarter, following a punt return to the IC 22 by Luke Dickerson, Steven Amoni carried the ball in from 4 yards out getting the Chargers on the board. That however, would be the final score for the offense, as they were unable to score, finishing the day 1-6 in the red zone. Penalties hurt the Chargers, in 4 of their 5 unsuccessful red zone chances, a penalty helped stall the drive. The special teams helped the defense preserve the shutout, three Aaron Blatner punts were downed inside the 20 yard line, including one inside the 10.

The hard faught win, moves the Chargers to 4-4 on the season, they will have a chance to finish above .500 this weekend as they host St. Francis on Friday with kickoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
